Honeydew operation seeks to crack down on offenders

KYA SAND - The Johannesburg District Police joined together at the launch of this month's operation Okae Molau on 21 May.

The Johannesburg District Police joined together at the launch of this month’s operation Okae Molau on 21 May.

The police were out in full force with the help of the Gauteng Traffic Police in roadblocks staged across the Honeydew policing precinct to crack down on suspects carrying illegal weapons, drugs, stolen items, and any other items of contraband.

The police were also out to check if those on the road had valid permits to be on the road during level four of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Hundreds of vehicles were stopped and searched during the morning.

The Honeydew Police’s Sargent Mamasedi May said that the morning’s operations were a great success.

“We were glad to have the support of our district commissioner Major General Max Masha, who travelled from roadblock to roadblock to enforce the law and ensure that all protocols were followed.

“Operations like these are very important to conduct during the pandemic to help to ensure that all individuals are on the road legally and are not violating any laws in the process. In cars and on the road, we checked that all individuals were socially distancing themselves, wearing masks and were using hand sanitiser.

We were also out to educate and inform the public about the laws and regulations put into place to keep them safe during this time.”

Operation Okae Molau has taken place regularly since the beginning of this year and the police have enjoyed many successes from it.
