A Ward 134 and Food Lover’s Market Covid-19 food donation drive is going incredibly well, thanks to community support, according to Ward 134 councillor Wendy Alexander.

Donations of non-perishable food at the store have been helping many families in need. “The initial donations that we have received have been extraordinary,” she said.

Alexander said that due to the lockdown, movement is very limited but people remain in need. Residents are encouraged to donate essential items.

“This is now the second time that I am coming to collect donated food items as the donation boxes are full. It would be amazing if I could be collecting once a week, so I encourage all that visit Food Lover’s Market at Lifestyle to purchase a few extra items to donate to those in need.”

The donations primarily go to communities in need like shelters, child-headed households and the unemployed.”We will continue this initiative until the need stops, which unfortunately won’t be for a very long time. The need is growing, especially in the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a wonderful way that people can give back to others if they are in a position to do so,” said Alexander.

Food Lover’s Market’s Jacqueline Jenkins said, “Our store owners have welcomed this initiative with open arms. This is a cause that is close to our hearts. This initiative joins our initiatives that we have been running for a long time, which also includes the collection and delivery of food hampers to those in need. These hampers are available for purchase by customers, and each time a customer purchases one, we match it.”

She said that Food Lover’s Market at Lifestyle has delivered over 120 hampers so far, and delivers the hampers themselves.

Alexander added that she would like to thank the community for their support and they hope that this spirit continues after the lockdown has concluded.
