Police worry about spike in house robberies of elderly homeowners

The Linden Police Station would like to inform the public of a sharp increase in the number of house robberies they are experiencing in the Linden policing precinct.

Spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said, “It is with great concern [that we notice] an increase in house robberies targeting mainly elderly individuals.”

She said that between four to five suspects armed with crowbars and firearms have been known to derail the gates and security gates of homes, forcing their way inside to rob homeowners.

The suspects approach homes they have been surveilling in the Risidale, Fontainebleau, Pine Park, Windsor, Malanshof, Darrenwood, Randpark and Robindale area in the mornings and afternoons.

The same suspects seem to target the Windsor area between 12am and 6 am.

Matumba continued, “We are warning all homeowners to be vigilant and ensure that their alarm systems are operational while we are working on this case. Please do not confront these suspects as they are armed and dangerous. Please report all suspicious activity immediately to the police or your security provider.”
