Police bust Ferndale drug dealer

Members of the West Rand K9 Unit and the Randburg Crime Prevention Unit received information from an anonymous tip-off about the suspect who was believed to be delivering drugs to a residence in Ferndale.

A suspected drug dealer has been taken off the streets of Ferndale after the Randburg police arrested him on 23 September.

Randburg police spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said the 32-year-old suspect was known to conduct his alleged drug dealing operations in Oxford Street.

Members of the West Rand K9 Unit and the Randburg Crime Prevention Unit received information from an anonymous tip-off about the suspect who was believed to be delivering drugs to a residence in Ferndale.

“The suspect was spotted in Oxford Street and was intercepted. He tried to evade arrest by running when he noticed the police. He was chased down and arrested,” said Maja.

When the suspect was searched, officers found drugs in his possession. The drugs were believed to be cocaine, cat and crystal meth with an estimated street value of R17 400.

The suspect was arrested and detained at the Randburg Police Station.
Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the officers for their effort and encouraged them to continue clamping down on drugs smugglers in the area. She further urged the members to leave no stone unturned in the fight against drugs and other crimes.
