Happy New Year from Ward 104
FERNDALE – Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood looks forward to the new year.
Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood looks forward to the new year.
He writes:
During the Covid-19 pandemic, we suddenly saw people losing their jobs, education disrupted, and companies closing down.
Then suddenly we were seeing hunger and suffering on scales never seen before.
What I then saw was what I would like to call the community ‘rediscovering its humanity’. People responded to the needs of the community by arranging food parcels, attending to the needs of the elderly and the young. In a short space in time, these programmes were put in place and driven by the community.
During 2020, people came together and reached out to meet the needs of one another. My hope and prayer are that we will not lose that humanity but build on it.
I would like to salute and pay tribute to all the residents who played in making a difference in the ward. Your contributions assisted the authorities in no small way.
My hope for 2021 is that we will tackle the next ‘virus’ as a united front, whatever it may be. The next ‘pandemic’ may be one of unemployment and rising poverty in the ward. All levels of government will need our input and assistance to fight this wave if it presents itself.
May God bless you all and may 2021 bring much happiness, joy and hope. See you all in 2021.
