Curro matrics excel despite Covid-19 challenges

SUNDOWNER – Curro Aurora's matric Class of 2020 celebrated their outstanding results.

Curro Aurora’s matric Class of 2020 made their way to their school one last time to officially collect their final statements of results after a tough year in schooling.

“On behalf of the Curro Aurora school community, parents, learners and teachers, I wish to congratulate the Curro Aurora Class of 2020 – you stood strong and brave amid a global pandemic and you made us proud through your achievements,” said executive head JC Engelbrecht.

The Class of 2020 achieved a 100 per cent overall pass rate, a 94 per cent bachelor’s degree pass rate and an average of 1.6 six distinctions per candidate.

The school wished to congratulate Nicole Krause and Nicola Jackson who passed with seven distinctions. Krause was placed on the Independent Education Board’s list for Outstanding Achievement, meaning that she was placed in the top one per cent of learners in five subjects and the top five per cent in one subject. She achieved a level seven for life orientation. Engelbrecht said that a big shout-out must go out to the school’s parents and guardians, who took time and made the effort to support our learners while they were dealing with the various challenges they faced during 2020.

“The Covid-19 storm is still very much with us but, thanks to the amazing effort from our innovative high school management team, passionate Grade 12 teachers and dedicated Grade 12 learners, we managed to move teaching and learning online from the moment the lockdown started in late March.

“I’m proud to say that at Curro Aurora, no learner was left behind and, in line with our promise of quality education, the Class of 2020 safely and successfully finished the 2020 academic year. I firmly believe we have turned learners into leaders.”
