The Honeydew Police’s Echo Squad are being praised by their station’s management after the confiscation of R150 000 worth of drugs and R200 000 worth of illicit liquor during operations in the Zandspruit area on 2 June.
One suspect was arrested for dealing in marijuana and selling liquor without a licence.

“Barrels and buckets of marijuana to a total of 75kg were confiscated as evidence. A further 29 cases of liquor to the value of R8 700 was also confiscated off the suspect,” said Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan.

In a separate operation, the Echo Squad raided an illegally operating shebeen in Zandspruit and arrested one suspect. They were able to confiscate illicit liquor to the value of R200 000.
“The hard work and dedication put in by all teams have to be commended, and these successes help to make the area policed by Honeydew safer for all,” said Muthan.

All confiscated items will be stored as evidence in upcoming trials and destroyed in a controlled environment once trials have concluded.

Both suspects are due to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
