Cosmo Mall closed as a precaution after protest tip-off
COSMO CITY – Mall closed for the day after tip-off was received that protests might begin.
The Cosmo Mall has been closed for the rest of the day (July 12) after a tip-off was received that pro-Jacob Zuma protesters might be headed that way.
The mall’s marketing manager, Katlego Lauren explained that businesses were open and everything was running smoothly until just after 09:00 when someone heard protests may move to the mall.
“There were no incidents but we wanted to rather be safe than sorry and so we closed down for the day. It is just for today, we expect to open again tomorrow,” she told Randburg Sun.
Pro-Zuma protests around the country have turned violent and there have been incidents of looting, stealing and burning of cars and tires.
President Cyril Ramaphosa urged residents to refrain from violent acts in his address on July 11, after former president Jacob Zuma was jailed after handing himself over to authorities.
