Victim Support Unit to continue their work telephonically.
The adjusted Level 4 Covid-19 lockdown went into effect on June 28, and one of the conditions of the lockdown is the suspension of Community Policing Forum (CPF) physical activities. The Victim Support Unit of the Linden CPF won’t let this stop their efforts to provide counselling and assistance to victims of crime and has therefore decided to carry on their duties while being socially and physically distant from the community.
Linden Victim Support Unit co-ordinator Di Constable expressed, “We are a group of 14 volunteers who attend scenes of crime and offer counselling service for all victims of crime. This service is operational 24/7 but, at present, due to Covid-19 regulations, we are unable to attend scenes but are contactable on 065 957 5996.”
The CPF is also pleading with the community to assist with sponsorship for the unit to have a uniform of sorts. Constable stated that the unit is currently raising funds to purchase golf shirts and the cost of printing the CPF logo along with the CPF name. Current Covid-19 restrictions make it near impossible for the CPF to host fundraisers.
Constable concluded, “We would be really grateful if anyone or a company in the Linden Policing Precinct would like to sponsor us on this initiative. Those interested can contact us on 065 957 5996.”
