Man loses R1500 in job scam

LINDEN – Man duped of R1500 before finding out his potential job post was a scam.

Linden police are urging members of the public to be on the lookout for scams that offer employment opportunities.

According to the station’s spokesperson Constable Takaliani Sibiya, a man was duped at the beginning of October after seeing a job vacancy being advertised on social media. Sibiya explained, “The security guard post was for Tembisa Hospital. He contacted the numbers on the post and was told the vacancy was still available. He forwarded his details and was informed he would need to pay to get the job.”

The complainant was told the money would be used to conduct a medical check-up on him and he went on to pay a deposit of R500 but was then told he would need to pay another R1 000 which would be the fee for his books.
“After depositing the money, the complainant tried to call the hospital to confirm details about the post only to realise it was a scam.

He opened a case at the station which police are investigating.
