Looking to the new year, Station Commander Brigadier Veeshani Arikum of Douglasdale police hopes for a better year.
“Last year was a very difficult year in comparison to 2020. We have lost many colleagues, friends and family members during this year due to Covid-19.
“I do wish 2022 brings health and happiness to everyone,” she said.
Last year, Arikum said there had been an increase in assaults and domestic-related crimes in the precinct.
She said the station had a number of goals for the new year.
“We are looking forward to a better year and better life, in hoping we can get back to some type of normal. We are looking forward to serving and protecting in the areas again.
“We are taking things one day at a time. Looking to this year, we would like to reduce crime against women and children. We also hope to see a reduction in the unemployment rate and reduction in poverty.”
