Three alleged crime incidents that occurred in a week has left residents of Barcelona 1 residential complex edgy.
A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation said residents who lived in the complex were worried about their safety.

This follows the alleged theft of a plasma TV, laptop and a pair of shoes from one unit in the complex. In the same week, suspects apparently jumped over the electricity fence and tampered with the vehicle of one of the residents and also turned off one of the gas cylinders located outside one of the units.
“Due to rain, the electricity fence was out of order and they gain access to the complex. This is scary, how did they know that it wasn’t working?” asked the resident.
The resident said he had told the body corporate that the electric fence was out of order but claimed he didn’t get any response from them. “We are worried. The streetlights on Drysdale Road [where the complex is situated] are often not working. Last time we had to call an ambulance when they [criminals] attacked a woman on the street.”

Mark Borrajerio of MC Borrajerio Managing Agents which is the body corporate managing the complex said the electric fence had been reported faulty and it was temporarily repaired on the same day.
“[Permanent] repairs to the fence were completed the following day. They suspect either lightning or the constant power surges in the area caused the fault. We have a general meeting coming up shortly to raise funds to improve security, do maintenance and settle council bills,” he said.

Borrajerio said depending on the outcome of the owners’ votes at the meeting, upgrades to the complex would take place.
Honeydew Police Station spokesperson Captain Bulan Muthan said he couldn’t find any information regarding these crime reports.
