Kutlwano ‘JJ’ Manaka who was the head boy at St Stithians College in 2021, is keen to study philosophy, politics and economics.
He believes that armed with this knowledge he will be able to build a better future for the country.
“I am very fascinated in politics, more on a global scale, but looking to bring everything that is valuable from outside to the country and hopefully build a better future,” he said.
He achieved four distinctions in his 2021 matric year and has applied to study an International Business, BCom BSc at Stellenbosch University or the University of Cape Town.

As the Boys’ College head boy, Kutlwano said the matric year had prepared him very well for life and he had learnt leadership lessons that would allow him to work with people for a common goal.
The head girl at the Girl’s College, Wantekenesha Mucharambey, aspires to study either health sciences or political sciences abroad.
With a challenging year and leading the school amid Covid-19 regulations, she managed to attain four distinctions. She said she would take a break and in September travel overseas to begin with her studies.

“It was exciting and challenging but the support from family and friends accommodated me,” she said. Wantekenesha said she learnt as head girl the importance of community and looking after each other as well as perseverance.
Leyah Haripersad who achieved six distinctions aspires to study biological science at the University of Witwatersrand and subsequently study medicine. She said Grade 12 was a constant battle where you had to keep you head up all the time. “There was a lot of stress, a lot of pressure that you put on yourself. I had amazing and exceptional support from my classmates,” she said.

The school as a whole celebrated their outstanding matric results on 19 January. The Boys’ College’s 143 candidates achieved a 100% pass rate including 340 distinctions and 137 learners qualified for bachelor’s degree studies.
Cameron Robertson, Zarret Mills and Hendrik Smith were placed on the IEB’s list for Outstanding Achievement. In the Girl’s College, 101 candidates wrote exams and attained a 100% pass rate with 99% qualifying for bachelor’s degree studies.
