The ways of a photographer with Sharnellee

SANDTON – De Beer's father introduced her to the world of photography by handing her a digital camera at the age of six. She discusses how 'capturing moments' has always been her ultimate mission in life.

It takes more than skills to capture a beautiful moment with the help of a lens: background, setup, lighting, editing, style and the list goes on.

Many factors contribute to the quality of getting the perfect picture. Sharnelle de Beer, who has photography running through her veins, has never doubted her ability in capturing perfect moments of her family, friends, clients and nature since she was a child.

Now as a freelance photographer, her drive is to leave her mark in every location she sets her foot in.

De Beer’s father introduced her to the world of photography by handing her a digital camera at the age of six.

She discusses how ‘capturing moments’ has always been her ultimate mission in life, “I’ve always loved photography since I was a little girl. When I got my first camera, I would go with it everywhere and just try to capture moments with people. That’s when the journey really started for me. Pictures are something that you can keep forever, through memory or through a device, it’s forever.

From being assigned to work at the 2021 South African Fashion Week which was hosted at The Leonardo building in Sandton and also assisting Future Females with network discussions in Sandhurst, De Beer enjoys spending her moments with clients and collaborating with other creators as much as she enjoys capturing their moments.

The young photographer shared some of her secrets of taking the perfect shot. “I make sure that whatever project I am assigned in, I get my feelings and emotions in the pictures. The main thing about photography is to be observant. When you are observant, you are able to magnify the smallest of details and make it stand out as the main focus with meaning. Allow yourself to be observant, be interested in telling stories through your pictures and last but not least, having an eye for light, composition and framing.”

De Beer concluded that people who want to pursue a career in photography should always be consistent and driven by art. She added that the main reward will forever be sharing memories with people and seeing their reactions.
