Fontainebleau Park is cleaned and made safer
FONTAINEBLEAU – Street lights were replaced, homeless people and their belongings removed and the park was cleaned.
A local park received some much-needed care when a joint-department visible service delivery operation was held on February 4.
The park was cleaned, homeless people inhabiting the park and their belongings removed, illegal gambling activities ended, illegal signage removed, the legitimacy of nearby businesses checked, and broken street lights replaced.

“We are here to make the park safe and clean again for the residents,” explained Ward 104 urban inspector, Thuli Ngobese.
“We will be back on February 10 to attend to other parts of Fontainebleau.”
The operation saw the following departments intervene: Metro police, Pikitup, Augmented Services, Citizen Relationship and Urban Management, emergency management services, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, Park Rangers, and City Power.

Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer, who was also present, said Johannesburg Roads Agency was the only department that was not involved.
“Residents have been scared to use the park and the children’s traffic centre here, as there have been reports of criminal activities,” she explained.
“Especially during hard lockdown, this is where illegal alcohol sales were said to be happening. We have been organising this clean-up for some time. The area needed it.”
