Oasis Haven’s bedrooms get a brand new look
Local companies celebrate Mandela Day by renovating bedrooms at a Child and Youth Care Centre.
Most days are busy at Oasis Haven, a registered Child and Youth Care Centre with two family homes accommodating 10 children each.
However, July 18 was a remarkably busy day for the centre which is home to children whose ages range from a few months old to 18 years.

Oasis Haven hosted teams from three organisations who spent their 67 minutes for Mandela Day helping redo the children’s bedrooms at the centre. They received donations from other organisations who chose to sponsor the children or the bedroom makeover for the two houses.
The fundraising manager at Oasis Haven, Qondani Tshuma said he had encouraged people to do what they could, with what they could, with what they have, wherever they are. “People have certainly taken us up on that, from individuals donating online to the teams who spent the day with us,” said Tshuma.
The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Regional Support Team Eastern Southern Africa donated money to cover groceries, and its director Anne Githuku-Shongwe and her team visited the girls’ house for a guided tour.
Bio Therm Energy Renewables donated bedding worth R13 000 to the boys’ house, as well as lunch for all the children and house staff. CEO, Robert Skjodt, and his team spent the afternoon changing the bedding and curtains and getting the bedrooms into tip-top shape for the children.

FLSmidth South Africa donated toys, food and children’s clothes, and enjoyed a guided tour through the girls’ house.
Four other organisations, BNI Dynamite, BNI Vitality, Tyto and Graphene Economics, had committed to helping out in the future.
“We’re grateful to everyone who partners with our Oasis Haven family to provide for the children in our care, and for all the help we had on Mandela Day,” said Beverley Beukes, the managing director at Oasis Haven.
