Man sentenced to 10 years for housebreaking, theft and malicious damage to property

Police acknowledge partnership with security companies in recent arrest and conviction.

Randburg police are celebrating the successful conviction and sentencing of a 26-year-old man for malicious damage to property, housebreaking and theft.
Hlome Mhongo received 10 years imprisonment for an incident that occurred last year.

“Mhlongo was arrested on October 26 after the police received a complaint of housebreaking in progress in Ferndale,” explained Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja.

“He was found hiding in a complainant’s garage by the police and security officers. He was found guilty on two charges, namely malicious damage to property and housebreaking and theft.”

Of the 10 years’ imprisonment, half are suspended for five years on the condition that he is not convicted of the same crimes again, during the suspension period.

“He was further declared unfit to possess any firearm,” Maja added.

Randburg Police Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones applauded the members for their quick response and the solid investigation done by investigating officer Detective Sergeant Themba Mkhari.

She further lauded the partnership between the police and the security officers which always resulted in positive arrests. She encouraged the community to promote similar partnerships.
