Bryanston Warriors Football Club in need of new training group looking to the new year
Aside from a challenge for the Bryanston Warriors Football Club now in need of a new training ground, the club celebrated a number of highs in 2022.
Alison Cann, chairwoman of the Bryanston Warriors Football Club said the year has been good one in terms of registration with new and returning memberships. From those registrations, the club was able to enter teams into the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) from U6 to U19 and two senior teams.
“The club was dealt a huge blow towards the end of the 2022 season when it was informed by the NCCB [New Covenant Church Bryanston]/ Kings College that our contract for the use of the grounds would not be renewed for the 2023 season,” she said.
“The school has been our home grounds for the past 10 years and has allowed us the opportunity to grow into the football club we are today so although the farewell is bittersweet, we would like to thank the NCCB for giving us the start we needed and the scope over the years to be able to establish ourselves within the footballing community.”
She added that the club was able to continue with its sponsorship programme in this year’s season, which gave over 25 children and adults the chance to play club football without any financial constraints of annual membership fees.
“With the return of ‘Covid Free’ football, our main focus for the start of the season was really to ensure that we eased back into some kind of ‘normality’ There was a lot of anticipation and excitement as players and supporters were able to return without the fears and added pressures of temperature checks, masks and watching games via video links from their vehicles,” said Cann regarding goals for the club this year.
“We tasked our coaches to bring back the competitive spirit into their respective age groups in order to raise awareness about the club, and they have done extremely well. Huge credit goes to our coaches who worked tirelessly to uphold a good standard of football at Bryanston Warriors Football Club.”
Cann had listed a number of the club’s achievements, such as celebrating their 10th year of establishment, the senior team not only taking first place in their division but also winning the RCLFA Premier Senior Men’s Cup Competition.
