Small business owners in Cosmo City celebrated Freedom Day in a unique way.
OB Tlali Leadership Academy hosted a Freedom Day entrepreneurship lunch lecture at Ko D’jong restaurant on April 27.
This was the first event whereby local business owners gathered and supported one of the business owners in the area.
Olebogeng Tlali, the founder of the academy, said that the lunch talk was aimed at boosting small businesses.
“I want them to support and uplift one another so that they can expand their businesses and take part in the market.”
Ten business owners attended the first lunch lecture intended to teach entrepreneurs how to circulate money within the neighbourhood.
Metse Petunia Thebe, the owner of Cosmo Dumpling, told the Randburg Sun that she is grateful for the event because she used to attend similar events elsewhere, but not in her own community.
“I like the fact that we got to share ideas, and I think it’s about time now we support one another. By doing that, we will be able to eradicate poverty and create employment,” added Thebe who started her business in 2017.
“We are gifted in many ways, however, we can only gain recognition if we are supported locally.”
Moseki Kutloane, the owner of Ko D’jong, which specialises in making bunny chows and cooked meals, expressed his excitement about the entrepreneurship lunch talk.
“The lecture has taught me to rotate money among the local businesses, which will help small businesses to continue operating instead of relying on the government for funding.”
A lunch will be hosted twice a month in the neighbourhood to enable local entrepreneurs to learn from one another and be motivated by others.
