City Power can’t even fix the small problems in Blairgowrie

City Power has not been able to fix a broken street light or lock an electricity box in Blairgowrie since September last year.

Separate electricity issues on Fir Street, Blairgowrie, have left resident Darryn Newcombe frustrated. Especially as he has been reporting them since November last year.

A single streetlight not working and one electricity box never locked or maintained may seem like small matters, but disappointment at not being able to fix the little problems after such a long time can build up to exasperation.

“Every time I log a call they close it the next day though nothing is fixed,” he lamented. “When they can’t even get the small things right it makes you lose hope.”

The streetlight not working nearby adds to the criminal risk in the area, and in recent years there have been burglaries and robberies on Fir Street.

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said on June 14, “The team leader in charge started recently and is battling to gather information about these incidents.” Once done, however, Mangena said he would respond to questions this publication sent regarding why these problems have persisted and when they will be resolved.

Though this publication followed up since then, no further comment was received by the time of going to print.
