Fire ravages COJ’s customer service centre in Randburg
Investigations are still underway to determine what caused the fire.
The City of Johannesburg is investigating the cause of the fire that broke out at the Randburg customer service centre in Region B on the morning of July 9.
“We are not sure how long it will take to rebuild it but the investigations are still ongoing,” said Nyaniso Jeku, media and public relations officer of the city’s group finance department.
Additionally, the city announced in a statement on July 10 that the cause of the fire is not known, but the centre is considered not safe for both residents and personnel.
Customers who prefer to pay their rates in person were encouraged to go to the Roodepoort customer service centre – Christiaan de Wet Road – and Florida Part Sandton customer service centre – 137 Daisy Street, Sandown, the statement advised.
“The city is doing everything in its power to ensure that the centre is up and running as soon as possible,” said Kgamanyane Maphogolela, director of communications and stakeholder engagement.
While the City has apologised to the customers for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate incident, it urged all to use the region’s email address: RegionBrevenue@joburg.org.za.
