Douglasdale police are set to fight crime during the festive season

Douglasdale police together with other stakeholders continue to raise awareness about crime prevention.

As part of the festive season awareness campaign Douglasdale police together with the Community Police Forum (CPF), South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Africa Impact Baby Rescue and Divine Intervention amongst other stakeholders conducted a joint awareness campaign to the domestic worker’s forum at Stratford Estates on October 10.

The police and CPF raised awareness of numerous crimes such as house robberies, online banking fraud, common robberies, theft, and gender-based violence, and educated the community about the protection order services available for victims. They also spoke about the importance of breaking the silence on abuse and provided safety tips while shopping and at ATMs and most importantly – reporting criminal activities to the police.

South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence had some great advice when they took the podium and flagged awareness on drugs, substance abuse, and the rehabilitation services available at their centre.

The programme was concluded by Impact Baby Rescue who outlined programmes offered by their centre which include crisis interventions, family planning, parenting counselling and safety of babies.

These campaigns started on 26 September when the police and CPF, Neighbourhood Watch, Divine Intervention and Night Guard Security joined hands to raise awareness of crime at Olivedale Corner Shopping Centre. The community members were given pamphlets with safety tips.

“The police will continue with these campaigns to ensure that the community of Douglasdale are, and feel, safe. We hope to continue hosting similar events and remain committed to promoting awareness within the community,” said Captain Tsietsi Phora from Douglasdale Police Station.
