Meet the Ferndale High Sports Woman of the Year

Jessica Segole who also plays for the Velocity girls' soccer team and Dalikay Sports Academy for Cricket wants to try our more different sports.

Jessica Segole, a Ferndale High School Grade 11 learner and the Sports Woman of the Year winner, has participated in three sports codes this year – soccer, tennis and cricket – and is still looking for more.

Sharing her journey in sports and for winning at the Ferndale High School awards she writes:

I am overjoyed, my dedication and hard work is finally recognised at the awards; it showed me that I didn’t do these things in vain and that people could see my passion.

It was a difficult year, most people around me said I should quit sports because am overwhelmed with the pressure, but I enjoyed the pressure as well, it pushed me to improve in both my academics and sports.

I have always had a passion for sports, there’s no sport that I at least didn’t try once and there are still multiple I want to participate in. The beauty of sport is pride, the pride we have in our team, ourselves and the sport.

For all the girls in sports – do what you can to break through your limits, Do not be afraid to fail, we all learn from our mistakes and failures, and we come back even stronger.

There are many people around you with a similar passion or the same mindset – you just haven’t found them yet, so don’t give up because we will all meet on the same field in the future.
