66 suspects arrested during festive season operation

Douglasdale police together with other stakeholders continue to fight crime.

As part of the SAPS safer festive season operations the police in Douglasdale together with other law enforcement agencies arrested a total of 66 suspects during operations that were conducted from November 10-14 throughout the area.

The suspects were arrested for different crimes ranging from rape, pointing of a firearm, contravention of Section 49(1)a of the Immigration Act, contravention of Section 57 of Gambling Act 4 of 1995, possession of drugs, dealing in drugs, housebreaking and theft, drinking alcohol in public, driving under the influence of alcohol, assault on a police officer and shoplifting.

Douglasdale Police Station, spokesperson Captain Mpho Tshetlhane, explained that during a multidisciplinary Greenbelt operation which comprised the SAPS, City of Joburg, Crum, JMPD, home affairs, social development,CPF/Community in Blue Patrollers and security companies was held in the early hours November 14.

“A further 40 undocumented persons were apprehended. The suspects will appear at Randburg Magistrates Court soon.”

The Station Commander of Douglasdale, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum , thanked all law enforcement entities for putting their boots on the ground to ensure increased visibility in the area and the safety and security of the community at large.
