Girls shine at the ladies tournament in Cosmo

Tournament organiser Caswell Mfondo explained that the tournament was a friendly and they want to give ladies a platform to play the sport they love.

The Ladies Soccer Challenge had spectators glued to their seats, leaving soccer fans wanting more at Cosmo Creek.

Four teams participated in the mini-league tournament which was played in points system form. Each team had a chance to play three games.

Tournament host Caswell Mfondo explained that the reason why he arranged the tournament was to give ladies a platform to express themselves using a sporting code that they like so much.

“I wanted to bring something different and prove that we can not limit their potential nor confine and box them in. The passion and commitment from them is there, let’s promote it by affording them a chance. Let’s invest more into women’s football.”

Ladies Soccer Challenge in Cosmo kept fans entertained.

The teams that battled it out for points were M Stars, DZ Movers, Real Sloot and Asijiki. Teams came from Pretoria, Soweto, and Diepsloot.

The eventual winners were Real Sloot topping the group with five points. M Stars came close but was a point short of the prize instead they took second place. The matches were played as friendlies but Real Sloot still took home a trophy and bragging rights for being champions.

Mfondo said that the games went well and the women had fun and competed fairly throughout the day. Fans were entertained by a great display.

Ladies get a taste of the gravel field in Cosmo.

“I would like to thank all the teams and players for gracing us with their presence. They travelled from near and far. As always a norm for my tournaments, I always make sure that we do charity work. Diskas Games donated sanitary pads to all four teams.”
