In what can only be described as an overwhelming festive season for the SPCA Randburg, this season’s influx of homeless pets surpassed records from previous years.

As we step into the new year, the kennel manager at the SPCA Cynthia Swanepoel said it felt as if they were already at the end of this new year due to the many animals that have been brought in.

She added this alarming situation called for immediate attention to the issue of animal overpopulation and responsible pet ownership. “We urge the public to sterilise their pets and make sure they have identification. A chip is a very simple very effective way to reunite animals and their owners.”

She urged prospective adopters to research their chosen breed to ensure they were well-prepared for pet ownership. She also emphasised the importance of having a secure yard.
