Noordhang resident fed up with Pikitup

Anna Howcroft explained that since hers was broken, she'd been borrowing a bin from a neighbour for nearly two months.

A resident in Randburg is frustrated by Pikitup after they were unable to deliver the ordered refuse bin because their delivery truck is currently broken.

Anna Howcroft explained she ordered a new rubbish bin on February 7 as her almost new bin was damaged by Pikitup employees during collection.

ā€œI contacted Pikitup the next day to request a replacement and received a reference number. I was informed that the new bin would be delivered within 7-10 working days.ā€

According to Howcroft, the entity confirmed to have stock but was unable to deliver because their delivery truck is currently broken. They requested that she come to the depot to collect the bin.

ā€œIt seems there is a lack of willingness to assist. It appears we are subject to the whims of an office autocrat whose mood dictates whether we receive a bin replacement. They ought to enquire about our patience level before issuing a reference number. If one lacks the patience, it’s best to refrain from engaging. Reaching out to the management, such as the Randburg regional manager, proves to be futile. I wonder if there is a specific procedure that needs to be followed, and why management hasn’t noticed the employees’ difficulties in completing the replacement process.ā€

The entity spokesperson Muzi Mkhwanazi explained that residents must call the Cityā€™s or Pikitupā€™s call centre to request a bin replacement. The resident will be issued with a reference number and the depot that services the area where the resident resides will supply the resident with the said bin or the resident can collect the bin at the respective depot.

He added that it takes seven days to wait for the new bin, however, the depot has been experiencing a backlog in terms of bin delivery for the past few months. It is against this backdrop, that residents are also encouraged to collect bins if they can do so.

ā€œThe depot uses a bakkie, not a truck. Currently, the depots are sharing their trucks, using the buddy system, two depots have a two-week roster on a two-week cycle period where one depot uses the vehicles to deliver bins and in the next two weeks another depot does the same for the same period to address the delays in the delivery of bins.ā€

He confirmed that at the current moment, they have bins and as soon as the customer has reported the bins and has a reference number, the customer can decide to come and collect their bin at the depot or we can deliver their bin.

Howcroft said that this issue has completely sapped her energy.

ā€œI’ve lost all interest in reaching out to them again. Should they require my cooperation in the future, I will certainly not be available.ā€
