Hoërskool Randburg athlete shines on the track
Chané Vermeulen said that it does get hard to balance sport and school at times but it teaches her to have better time management and to be able to work under pressure.
Hoërskool Randburg’s talented athlete Chané Vermeulen was named the best track athlete at the Super Interhoër that was held at Pilditch Stadium.
She participated in two races, the 200m and 400m and won them both. She finished her 200m in 00:23:77 and 400m in 00:56:77.
Chané explained that she was very pleased with her performance. “I think it went well and it was overall good races. I think the school‘s support for the day played a big role in the results because they supported me with each race. Some of the races do get a little harder because it is a long and tiring day but with their support it becomes easier.”
She added that the Super Interhoër is a very big event for her and the school; it offers her an opportunity to race against some of the best athletes and for the school to compete against other schools that are much bigger.
She said that she was surprised to be named the best track athlete and it was unexpected. “The interhoër really does have some of the best athletes who are very good at what they do, so it really was an honour to receive it – I was very surprised.”
Chané is also part of Hoërskool Randburg Athletics Club and will be competing in the upcoming Athletics South Africa (ASA) National Championships.
“I just want to go and do the best I can, run good times and have fun. Athletics is something that I have always loved doing, I have been running since I could remember and it’s a passion that has just always stayed with me. I have always loved watching some of the world’s best athletes run on TV with the hope that I will one day be able to be like them.”
