Kernick delivers at the Red Star Raceway

Michael Kernick explained that he is super privileged and thanked everyone who has helped making race day happen.

Michael Kernick, a racer based in Sharonlea recently participated in and won the class C+ Silvercup 2.0 category race held at Red Star Raceway. He raced the Nash MVW3 in Silvercup 2.0 and the Tasman 95 Formula Vee back in Formula Libre category.

Kernick explained having the two categories back to back for qualifiers and race one meant jumping out one and into the other.

“Silvercup race 1 on the short track was incredible after I messed the start up I had some work to do but soon got involved in a five-car battle for position. It was a proper close race and all of us had to work hard, in the end, I finished 6th overall and 1st in class.”

He added that jumping straight into the Tasman after qualifying 1st in class was pretty cool. “We ended up having a great dice for class honours and it was really close and clean but were beaten in the line and came 2nd in class.”

Kernick finished 5th on the Silvercup race two which was on the long track. “We knew we didn’t have the power and in the end it was a close race with an exciting end. It’s really great that we can race the little sports car close and safely with the saloon cars, they really do look out and leave space. Finishing fifth felt like a win on its own.”

A decent start in Formula Libre race two, fighting off cars was a tall order. The car in front of him dropped oil on the racing line bringing him back in contention when the race was red flagged.

“The field had shrunk a bit but it was decided to lap dash to the line and in the end we got 3rd overall in the Tasman and it was an awesome achievement. The car got a overall podium result – now that is an absolute win.”

“It is great winning class C in Silvercup. It makes me very excited and this year we are trying to win the whole championship so every little bit helps.”
