Honeydew CPF honours heroic police team

The recognition comes after the team's remarkable bravery and quick thinking during an incident in Zandspruit.

In recognition of their outstanding service and exemplary achievements, the Honeydew Community Police Forum (CPF) proudly awarded the March 2024 Goodwill Shield to a commendable team of officers from Honeydew Police Station.

Michael Steyn, the public relations officer for Honeydew CPF, announced, “Our award for March 2024 not only goes to one person but to an entire team of officers from Honeydew Police Station. The Visible Policing reaction team from Honeydew is the winner of this award.”

The recognition comes after the team’s remarkable bravery and quick thinking during an incident in Zandspruit. In March 2024, the officers apprehended a suspect found with an illegal firearm. As the officers approached the suspect, he attempted to flee, prompting a pursuit. The team successfully captured the suspect after a brief foot chase and discovered a loaded .44 Magnum revolver in his possession. The suspect has since been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, leading to a notable decline in firearm-related robberies in the Zandspruit area.

The team of officers honoured with the Goodwill Shield includes Sergeant Gaobuse, Constable Lebepe, Sergeant Masinge, Sergeant Setshedi, Constable Mosito, and Constable Thusi.

Steyn expressed the CPF’s belief in acknowledging outstanding contributions, stating, “We believe in giving recognition where it is due, and we want to congratulate every one of these officers for the outstanding effort they have made.” As a token of appreciation, the team was presented with gift vouchers to commend their dedication and bravery.

Steyn also extended an invitation for businesses and individuals to participate in supporting future initiatives, encouraging sponsorship of vouchers for deserving officers. “Well done to this team and we can’t wait to see who the next recipient will be,” said Steyn.

For those interested in contributing or sponsoring vouchers, inquiries can be made via email at pro@honeydewcpf.org.za or through WhatsApp at 072 895 1289.
