Camille O’Sullivan: It's hard to say no because there are a lot of issues, the water being the most worrying but there is some positive change, people are trying, and there is a lot of room for improvement for sure but I don't think we are in a full crisis.
Once regarded as one of the top destination cities in Africa, Johannesburg has been declining recently – we asked residents if they felt Johannesburg was in a crisis.
Here is what they had to say:
Moosura Khan: Definitely, Johannesburg is in a crisis in terms of water-shedding, we could go through days not having water, and rushing to the shops storing water, In terms of load-shedding it is a major distribution.
Oupa Madia: I think we are in a crisis because a lot of things aren’t taken seriously for example people can hijack buildings now and crime is always on the rise, and the streets are dirty with blocked drains which also leads to water-shedding.
