Douglasdale Community Policing Forum receives fire skid, a tool for lifesaving situations, from TRSS security

TRSS Security Company has donated a fire skid to the Douglasdale CPF, important equipment that will assist them in attending to fire breakouts, while working alongside the authorities.

Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) has taken a significant step towards enhancing community safety, thanks to a collaborative effort with TRSS Security Services.

On November 7, TRSS handed over a specialised fire skid to the CPF, strengthening their ability to respond to fire emergencies effectively.

The fire skid, available exclusively to Douglasdale CPF patrollers, led by Emile Barnard, will play a pivotal role in protecting property and potentially saving lives within the Douglasdale Policing Precinct. This partnership underscores the commitment of both organisations to public safety and community resilience.

The fire skid will enable more rapid response times in fire-related emergencies, empowering local safety initiatives. Douglasdale CPF values this partnership, acknowledging TRSS’s unwavering support.

Brett Fisher, executive director of TRSS, said fires are extremely dangerous.

“The amount of fire reports that we get every single day in our WhatsApp group is just too much. At the moment, we have about 28 fire fighting vehicles out there and they are constantly busy.

“Supplying a trailer like this to the CPF, just makes our lives a bit easier, and shows our commitment to the cause. They are self funded, and it is not easy to raise funds. We are going to come to the party in a massive way now, and we are putting our full might behind the CPF and supporting them.”

He added that they are extending their efforts, which goes beyond fighting crime. The TRSS finds it so important to give the right tools to continue their wonderful work of saving lives.

“This kind of fire skid costs roughly about R20 000–R25 000. We are going to be giving a few of these to other police forums in other sectors. We were given a wish list and we’re going to work through it so that the community reaps the benefits.”

He said the fire skid has got one little engine, which can run it, as well as a 600l tank. “If it runs out of water, for instance, in a massive fire, it has the ability to connect another pipe into a pool, river, or fire hydrant. It is flexible like that.”

Micheal Tuck, chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF sector 1, said they are grateful for the donation. He said they have had a number of small fires taking place in the area and the fire skid would assist them, working alongside the authorities.

“We are so happy. This is a very expensive piece of equipment, so, we were kind of short for a couple of years. When it was offered by the board from TRSS we were more than delighted to take it.”
