The purpose of this day was to reinforce a safety culture and improve the well-being for security, retailers, site staff, and customers. This will be achieved through crafting an awareness campaign for an annual safety day that addresses high severity incidents and heightens awareness amongst site staff on addressing robberies (ATM bombings, theft of cash in the tills, theft of cigarettes, and CMS attacks).
Sasol Mobility teams were on-site, training retail employees on the necessary tools to assist them to manage their safety as they head towards the holiday season.

The safety day first started in 2022 as a response to the spike in security incidents, such as armed robberies, as well as ATM and cash management system bombings.
Under the theme: Take Action, Stop, Consider, Be Safe, it was a collaborative effort between Sasol, the South African Police Services (SAPS), Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF), private security companies, and other industry bodies such as the Petroleum Safety Institute (PSI).

Fuel retail staff were encouraged to be committed to the implementation of safety standards and security guidelines to tackle high severity security incidents.
Retailers were urged to follow simple rules for their safety:
• Keep only the minimum required amount of money in the till.
• In high-risk areas, consider operating from the point-of-sale window between 22:00 and 04:00.
• Ensure that CCTV systems are functional and well maintained.
• Ensure your panic buttons are working and linked to the armed response security company.
• Test all security systems on a weekly basis.

Viginia Sithole, manager of the newly opened Sasol Blandford, explained that they wanted to spread awareness to their customers as there is a high percentage increase in crime approaching the holidays.
“We wanted to remind the community about the importance of safety, as well as introduce ourselves to the community by insuring them that they are safe here. We gave pamphlets and we explained to them more as we were filling up.”
She added that the day was a huge success and thanked everyone who attended.
