Zandspruit residents show support for local tournament

Zandspruit residents flock 52 Sports Grounds to support their different teams at the Mailula Legacy Cup tournament.

Bridgetown Rovers Football Club defended their Mailula Family Legacy Cup title in a tough battle against home team Foxes Football Club on the dusty pitch of 52 Sports Ground in Zandspruit.

The two-day tournament is hosted by Zandspruit resident and owner of Mailula Monate FC, Abram Mailula, and his family.

Soccer lovers at 52 Sports Ground in Zandspruit.

The second edition of this tournament featured eight teams from Zandspruit and surrounding areas, and residents packed the 52 Sports Grounds to witness top-quality kasi football.

The final lived up to expectations, with the defending champs coming out on top with a 2-1 victory.
The Mailula family sponsored the prizes, which included fully branded soccer kits and a trophy and medals for the winners and runners-up.

Mailula said, “Thank you to the community for coming out in huge numbers to support our local football on a rainy day. This doesn’t end here. Together, we are planning a follow-up event, which will be a netball tournament and a beauty pageant.”
