The operation was aimed at addressing various issues such as: gender based violence, drug and substance abuse, theft of gate motors, hijackings, theft out of motor vehicles, theft of motor vehicles, business robberies, common robberies, internet scamming, and general safety tips.

The team engaged with shop owners and members of the public within the centre. Approximately 600 pamphlets were handed out, and positive feedback was received from community members with regards to the campaign.
Lizzy Mabena, chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, explained that the campaign was a success as they managed to engage with many residents. “I do believe that these campaigns are very effective, as we, as a security cluster, are able to interact with members of the public directly. We are able to talk to them and give them tips on how to report crime, and also to let them know what types of crimes are in their different areas.”

She further stated that the members of the public received the campaign well, enjoying the police visibility. “It moves away from the concept that you only see the police at the police station. It was positive and met with warmth. It’s also an opportune moment for other residents, who had inquiries and haven’t got a chance to go to the station, to talk to police officers.”
Mabena added that the campaigns play a big role in fighting crime, and also teaching the community about crimes and offering tips to avoid them.

The CPF urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to SAPS at 10111, Douglasdale SAPS at 011 699 1333, or the Douglasdale Shift at 071 675 7158.
“On behalf of the Douglasdale CPF we would like to thank Douglasdale SAPS and other stakeholders who participated in this operation.”
