Sundowner Community Association joins a new community app

The Community Hub app, which is aimed at uplifting communities around South Africa, has just been joined by the Sundowner Residents Association, putting Sundowner in the spotlight.

The Sundowner Community Association (SCA), among other associations in and around Randburg, have joined the free-to-download mobile app, Community Hub.

Community Hub, which is customised for each community, is designed to enhance safety, intelligence, and connectivity within the residence association. By downloading the app, residents are not only connecting with neighbours; they’re also joining a unique revenue-sharing model that benefits their association directly.

Through strategic advertising, a portion of the revenue generated is reinvested back into the residents associations, helping to strengthen and support the community.

Shaun Dewing, of Visual Software Studios, explained that the app is unique, and a central point for residents to communicate and businesses to advertise.

The app has relevant chats, which residents can request to join, depending on their interest, as well as which street or town house complex the live in. It also features a national panic service, which can be used throughout the country, and is free for everyone on the app.

It has features, such as: wine and dine, which focuses on advertising for local restaurants, emergency contacts, community projects such as clean-ups, and more. Residents can also connect with businesses directly, and be able to see their trading hours.

There is also a trading post feature, which allows community members to buy and sell items within the app. Admins will also be privy to all the information, in case there are scammers. There are also newsletters posted on the notice board feature for residents. There is even an in-app game, to keep young ones, and young-at-heart app users, excited and engaged.

Virtual Software Studios has announced that the app is going live with additional communities in and around Randburg, reaching as far as Ruimsig. The company is currently in discussions with various other suburbs, nationwide, to expand their reach even further.

Jamie Hendry, SRA’s chairperson, said the response from the community has been fantastic. “There was initial hesitancy to move away from apps that they know and are comfortable with, but those that have started using the Community Hub app are loving it.”

He also added that resident associations manage the app as well as the admin portal, which helps them deliver critical community driven information.

Here are some of the standout features of the app:

• Free national emergency, medical, fire, and breakdown panic button: With a single tap, access fast national security services and medical support whenever you need it, no matter where you are in South Africa.
• In-app messaging: Seamlessly chat with residents, stay updated, and promote a tighter-knit community.
• Marketplace: Buy, sell, and trade goods locally with ease, keeping transactions simple and close to home.
• Exclusive local offers: Take advantage of special offers from nearby businesses and shops.
• Trusted local tradespeople: Connect with reliable professionals for all your home repair and maintenance needs.
• Resident notice board: Stay informed about important updates and announcements.
