Speaking on behalf of the family, Matshoene Serumula said that they still did not know the real reason for his death.

“The police do not give us any feedback unless we go there, and they tell us that there hasn’t been any progress, which makes one wonder if there is anything they are doing regarding this case.”

According to Serumula, Danny shared a commune with three other people, the alleged suspects. On the same day the incident occurred, all his housemates ran away.

“It feels like a horrible nightmare. His death came as a shock. Especially the way he died was devastating. He wasn’t a violent person. We still expected a lot from him. He was only 24 years old.”

She added that the family was incomplete without him. “You can still see the pain in his mum’s eyes, especially that no one has told her what happened, and those who killed him are still not arrested.”

She described Danny as a kind, humble, loving, person who got along with everyone. “He was always smiling and laughing. He was passionate about life. He loved making jokes.”

When contacted, the Honeydew police said they were not providing information on this case. Randburg Sun sent a query to Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, but he had not responded by the time of going to print. His response will be published once made available.

Serumula concluded by saying the family just wanted closure.

“We hope that the people who killed him get arrested and pay for what they did. We also hope that the police could do more, like work with Zimbabwean police, since those guys aren’t South African citizens.”
