Alliance Learners Transport Association discusses organisations progress
Alliance Learners Transport Association announced the newly elected executive committee at a discussion at Randburg Fire Station over the success and progress of the organisation.
Members of the Alliance Learners Transport Association in Region B gathered at the Randburg Fire Station to discuss the organisation’s progress.
The scholar transport association, registered under Gauteng Education Transport Services (GETS), was formed in March 2023, founded to address the concerns and challenges that the drivers in Region B face.

They also ensure that their members are responsible for the learners and that their vehicles are in roadworthy condition. They also did training, which covered basic firefighting, first aid, and road safety with the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) community outreach departments.
Alliance secretary Bonisiwe Mkhonza explained that the scholar transport operators need to fall under an association to be able to transport kids. “The purpose, basically, is to have all the local drivers in Region B under one association where we can have a voice, be represented, and be counted in the government as well.”
She said that the association has grown beyond where they thought they would grow. “It’s working well for us. If one of us is in an incident, we assist because we are part of one association.”

Mkhonza added that the event was a success, with members also voting for the new executive committee in a democratically free and fair manner that everyone agreed on. “It was not just a meeting; it was an election and announcement of the new executive committee. Other stakeholders that were involved and helped out were the GETS regional office, Provincial Executive Committee, and the Department of Roads and Transport.”
The new executive committee members are, training officer Desire Molefe, grievance Frans Sema, disciplinary officer Mbali Nyembe, public relations officer Nonkululeko Tshabalala, treasurer Pearl Hadebe, deputy secretary Keitumetse Molelekwa, secretary Bonisiwe Mkhonza, deputy chairperson Patrick Kule, and chairperson Sam Lekalakala.
