Still no word from Johannesburg Water on the 5-year church ground leak
Despite emails, WhatsApps, and phone calls, Johannesburg Water has still not replied to the Randburg Sun’s calls for comment on the five-year-old water leak inside the Kruispad-kerk grounds.
Despite almost a month of following up with Johannesburg Water (JW), the Randburg Sun has still not heard anything about the five-year water leak inside the Kruispad-kerk grounds.
The leak on the grounds on Elise Road and Malibongwe Drive, continues to cause frustrations for churchgoers and residents.

JW attended to it in April, but only so far as to dig a hole where the leak is. That left a deep trench, which is now filled with water. Since then, nothing further has been done by the entity.
Resident and member of the church Johan Kruger confirmed that their late reverend tried to get this leak fixed long before he passed away in 2021, so it has been leaking for at least five years.

He said that it’s been going on for so long, they just carry on. “Randburg Water called in March and told me they are busy sourcing materials, and then they will fix the leak. After that, and countless emails later, nothing has been done, except the digging in April. Our treasurer confirmed there is a very big amount outstanding on the church’s water bill.”
Kruger also raised safety concerns as the hole is filled with water, and children attend the church. “We just make sure to tell kids to be careful. We have, among ourselves, discussed the idea of maybe putting some sort of grid over it, but we do not have the finances for it. We are trying to make a plan.”
Questions were sent to the JW team on September 15. Nolwazi Dhlamini, external communications manager for JW, noted that they are liaising with the relevant depot to get more information and will provide a response within their standard turnaround time of 48 hours.
That was almost a month ago and we have still heard nothing. The Randburg Sun will continue to follow up with the entity and publish their response as soon as we receive it.
