A hit-and-run incident in Blairgowrie on October 15 has once again shown the strength of a united community.
At around 20:50, Beagle Watch received an alert from a client at a service station on Mackay Avenue, reporting that an Uber delivery driver had been hit by a motorist driving a Suzuki Swift.
Two Beagle Watch response vehicles arrived within minutes and confirmed that the motorcyclist had been struck. Residents in the area quickly came to the victim’s aid, while two others chased after the fleeing driver.

The chase ended successfully on Conrad Drive, where residents managed to intercept the Suzuki Swift and called for Beagle Watch’s assistance. Officer Dumisani Mqadi responded to the scene and took control of the situation.
Back at the crash site, officer Simon Mdlalose remained with the injured motorcyclist and a resident, Sammy Walker, until emergency services arrived. The victim was later taken to Helen Joseph Hospital for medical care.
According to Beagle Watch, the driver of the Suzuki Swift later abandoned his car and was escorted to the police station by Beagle Watch personnel in his wife’s vehicle.
The incident was captured on public space CCTV cameras located at the corner of Conrad Drive and Mackay Avenue, which may assist in the ongoing investigation.
“This incident highlights the vital role community members play in supporting emergency response efforts,” said David Caseiro, Beagle Watch’s area manager for Blairgowrie.
“The quick thinking and decisive action of residents, combined with our rapid response, ensured the situation was handled well and the driver was held accountable.”

However, the evening took another unfortunate turn.
While helping direct traffic at the accident scene, a member of the public had his cellphone snatched by suspects in a Toyota Corolla.
Beagle Watch said its CCTV systems are once again being used to track the vehicle and identify the culprits.
“Our teams are highly successful in tracking vehicles linked to crimes, and we are doing everything we can to find these suspects, who brazenly took advantage of an accident scene to commit a crime,” Caseiro added.
