The Douglasdale CPF look back at the 2025 achievements and wishes residents a safe holiday season.

The Douglasdale Community Policing Forum (CPF) extended its heartfelt Christmas and New Year wishes to all residents of the Douglasdale Policing Precinct.

“May this festive season bring peace, joy, and renewed hope,” said chairperson of the CPF Lizzy Mabena. “Together, we have shown that community spirit is stronger than crime, and as we step into 2026, we remain committed to safeguarding our community with vigilance, unity, and care. Stay safe, connected, and may your homes be filled with love and light.”

Mabena looked back at the CPF’s achievements in 2025: The community engagement, including the quarterly public meetings, strengthened ties between the community of Douglasdale, CPF, police, and ward councillors; installation of six solar-powered lights in the public area parking of Douglasdale Police Station to improve safety and visibility; in the process of upgrading and refurbishing the parking lot area for improved and coordinated access to the police station.

They also held awareness campaigns where they discouraged residents from supporting illegal traffic controllers and promoted responsible reporting.

The chairperson said the CPF’s proactive initiatives were praised for keeping Douglasdale a safer and more welcoming area.

“As we bid farewell to 2025, we celebrate the strides we have made together, reducing crime, strengthening community bonds, and investing in safety projects that light our way forward. The challenges of 2026 will demand our vigilance, but with unity, care, and resilience, we are confident that Douglasdale will continue to thrive. May this festive season remind us that safety is not only the work of the police alone, but the shared responsibility of every resident.”

She further stated that in 2026, they will focus on public safety and will intensify patrols and awareness campaigns. Residents can also look forward to technology-driven policing.

“Expect more emphasis on surveillance, lighting projects, and community reporting platforms.”

The CPF shared safety tips for residents during the holidays:

  • Secure homes: Double-check locks, alarms, and perimeter lighting before leaving for holidays.
  • Avoid displaying valuables: Keep gifts and electronics out of sight from windows.
  • Stay alert in shopping areas: Be mindful of pickpockets and avoid carrying large amounts of cash.
  • Report suspicious activity: Use CPF WhatsApp groups or SAPS hotlines to share concerns quickly.
  • Responsible celebrations: Don’t drink and drive, driving under the influence cases increased by 19% in Gauteng alone in 2025.
