A year of heart and home at Summerfield Park Retirement Village

From award-winning care to joyful community moments, 2025 reminded us why Summerfield Park is more than a village; it’s family.

As the festive season settles gently over Summerfield Park Retirement Village in Randburg, residents and staff are reflecting on a year rich in connection, care, and shared celebration.

From quiet moments in the gardens to lively social gatherings, 2025 has strengthened the sense of belonging that defines the village.

One of the year’s proudest milestones was being named Eden Home of the Year for the second consecutive time, a recognition that celebrates the compassion, teamwork, and community spirit lived out daily at Summerfield Park.

Village manager Lee-Ann Benney said the honour belongs to everyone who calls the village home. “This award is a reflection of our people, residents and staff alike, who show kindness, respect, and care in everything they do. Summerfield Park truly thrives because of its sense of community.”

The village calendar was filled with meaningful and joyful events, made possible by the dedication of the entertainment committee. Sing-alongs, concerts, bring-and-braais, craft mornings, men’s breakfasts, and social evenings brought residents together, while the office-organised Heritage Day celebration added colour, culture, and unity. The much-loved sponsored Christmas lunch and dinner once again became a highlight, filling the village with festive cheer and shared laughter.

Beyond the events, everyday moments made the year memorable: conversations over Thursday morning coffee, laughter after concerts, and peaceful walks through gardens that flourished thanks to the gardening team and resident-led garden committee. These spaces became symbols of growth, care, and calm.

Benney said choosing a single local hero for 2025 was impossible, as the true heroes are the entire Summerfield Park community.

“From the caring nursing staff and hardworking cleaners to the gardeners, friendly security guards, coffee man, lovely loaves bakers, and the dedicated worship, garden, and entertainment committees, each person plays a vital role in creating the warmth and unity the village is known for.”

While meeting the diverse social needs of a growing community was a challenge, it was met with openness, creativity, and collaboration, ensuring everyone felt included and connected.

As Christmas approaches, Summerfield Park extends warm holiday wishes to residents, families, neighbours, and supporters. “Our Christmas wish is for continued unity, good health, and joy. May our village always be a place of comfort, care, and belonging.”
