The holes on Bend Street were the result of repair work done by Johannesburg Water, and although Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) carried out some of the work reinstating the roads in October 2025, the entity did not patch all the holes, promising to come back and complete the work at a later stage. JRA’s Region B depot, in December 2025, admitted that they are aware of the reinstatements, and that the work will be completed as soon as possible, as is it is still on their work in progress list.

Head of department for regional operations Khaya Gqibitole said that the repair schedule was interrupted by inclement weather and wet conditions, which are not conducive or desirable for asphalt. He assured residents that the holes have not been ignored, and appealed for patience while the matter is resolved.

Blairgowrie Community Association chairperson Harold Fleishman is not convinced by the entities excuses, believing that they should have come back long ago to complete the work. “They said they are running out of tar, and they are coming back, but they never did. With all the rain [the hole] is getting bigger and deeper, and has become impossible to drive on. This has created more damage to cars and further potholes, because of the cars avoiding the reinstatement.”

Questions were sent to JRA, but they did not reply by the time of print. Their response will be published once made available.
