UPDATE: Nigerian union demands justice after Windsor shooting

The Nigerian Union South Africa has condemned the fatal shooting of Emeka Uzor in Windsor East, alleging he was executed ‘assassination style’ and calling on police leadership to launch a thorough investigation.

The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has sent a strong message to the South African government, particularly the Minister of Police and the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, calling for a thorough investigation into the case of Emeka Uzor, who was fatally shot on Sunday in Windsor East.

Uzor was shot during an anti-drug raid led by Xolani Khumalo, who is known for his drug bust television show and is also ActionSA’s Ekurhuleni Mayoral candidate. Mayoral candidate spokesperson Siyanda Makhuba confirmed Khumalo’s presence and explained that during the raid, an altercation occurred and a shootout followed.

NUSA president Smart Nwobi alleged that Uzor was executed “assassination style, with over 12 bullets while seated in his parked vehicle.”

The union strongly condemned Khumalo’s subsequent media statement. “Such statements are not only careless and irresponsible but deeply inhumane and barbaric, and show profound disrespect for the sanctity of human life.”

Nwobi urged the Nigerian community in South Africa to remain calm and law-abiding during this difficult period. “Rest assured that we are working tirelessly with relevant authorities to ensure justice prevails.”

ActionSA later released a statement highlighting the broader implications for drug syndicates and the rule of law. “For too long, drug syndicates have terrorised our communities through violence, intimidation and total disregard for the law.” The party pledged to continue supporting decisive and lawful measures to dismantle criminal networks and confront violent resistance.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed that a case of murder has been registered and an investigation is underway. Further details are expected once more information becomes available.
