Tragic deaths of St Stithians students in Sabie leads to murder investigation
The St Stithians College community is reeling after the tragic deaths of Cameron Waldeck-Cooks and Ethan Coetzee in Sabie, as Mpumalanga police open a murder investigation following post-mortem results.
The St Stithians College community was plunged into mourning following the tragic passing of two of its own: 17-year-old Grade 11 leaner Cameron Waldeck-Cooks and 19-year-old Class of 2025 alumnus Ethan Coetzee.
According to an article by Caxton Local Media’s Lowvelder, Mpumalanga police have now opened a murder investigation after post-mortem findings shed new light on the teenagers’ deaths.

The bodies of the two friends were discovered by cleaning staff at the lodge, situated one kilometre outside Sabie, at 07:30 on August 3.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo previously confirmed that an inquest docket was opened prior to the post-mortem results.
Now, new information suggests that Cameron may have been strangled, while Ethan may have taken his own life.
Speculation of a drug overdose has not been ruled out by police.
