Tragic deaths of St Stithians students in Sabie leads to murder investigation
Police confirm murder case after postmortem results in Sabie lodge tragedy.
The South African Police Service in Mpumalanga has confirmed that they are investigating a case of murder and an inquest following the deaths of two teenagers, one a current and the other a former learner at St Stithians College, at a lodge in Sabie.
Colonel Mavela Masondo said police received a complaint on August 3, at about 07:50, regarding two people found deceased at the lodge.

On arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Ethan Coetzee and 17-year-old Cameron Waldeck-Cooks. Both were declared dead at the scene.
“An inquest docket was initially opened. However, following postmortem results, a case of murder was added,” Masondo explained.

He said the postmortem results suggested that one of the teenagers may have been strangled, while the other’s death may have been self-inflicted.
“The investigation is continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident,” Masondo said.
