Two deep sinkholes discovered at Denise Circle in Blairgowrie

Acting ward councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete is demanding urgent action from JRA, after the discovery of two dangerous sinkholes, situated on Denise Circle in Blairgowrie.

Two sinkholes on Denise Circle in Blairgowrie are alarming local leaders and prompting urgent safety measures.

One sinkhole has opened right next to the road, creating a serious danger for drivers and cyclists on this neighbourhood street. The second, just as risky, has appeared on the sidewalk only a few metres away, in an area where families, joggers, and people walking their dogs often pass by.

Ward 102 acting councillor Bea Campbell-Cloete says the hole is about two to three meters deep, with water flowing at the bottom. She confirmed that they have been reported to Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA), but nothing has been done. “JRA said they are busy with sinkholes at the moment.

They will attend to it. My worry is the safety of the community, as you cannot see these sinkholes.”

Until repairs are made, residents are urged to exercise extreme caution to prevent what could become a tragic accident.

Blairgowrie Community Association chairperson Harold Fleishman feels the issue should be treated as an emergency. “Unfortunately, JRA are so inundated. There are potholes all over the place. I suppose it comes down to a matter of urgency.

“This one in the park might not seem so urgent, but if somebody falls in it, then it’s going to be very urgent and serious. The other one is actually on the road. Cars can drive over the road and could also end up in a big sinkhole.”

Campbell-Cloete confirmed that she will continue escalating the issue with JRA. Questions were sent to the entity. Their reply will be published once made available.
