Beagle Watch recovers 48 stolen Telkom cables in Randpark Ridge
A sharp-eyed security officer uncovered a large stash of stolen Telkom cables hidden in a manhole after spotting a suspicious vehicle in Randpark Ridge.
A routine patrol by a Beagle Watch security officer in Randpark Ridge led to the recovery of 48 stolen Telkom cables in the early hours of Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at around 03:12, on the corner of Appelblaar Avenue and Ysterhout Drive.
According to John Magilego, who oversees the Randpark Ridge area for Beagle Watch, the patrolling officer noticed a Toyota Quantum parked at the intersection.
“As the officer approached, five suspects jumped into the vehicle and sped away.”

Upon inspecting a nearby manhole, the officer found the stolen Telkom cables, along with several tools including a hammer, hacksaw, chain, steel pole, and block and tackle, which are believed to have been used to remove the cables.

A case has since been opened with Honeydew SAPS, and investigations are underway. No arrests have been made at this stage, and it is still unknown which areas were affected by the theft.
Magilego added that Beagle Watch will increase patrol visibility and make use of CCTV cameras in the area to help prevent similar crimes in future.
Residents are urged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
