Devon Steenkamp, Ward 134 councillor, admitted that the year 2024 was marked by progress and challenges.
Among his highlights for the year was: driving a 2024 election campaign, and seeing the results of a new government made up of various different political parties to ensure accountability, championing the #NoDryTapsJoburg campaign, which has brought attention to infrastructure neglect and water crises in Johannesburg, collaborating with local stakeholders on issues such as illegal dumping in Kya Sand, addressing environmental concerns that affect air quality and quality of life, and witnessing the court case ruling for the city to do an air quality test.

The ongoing water and electricity crises, as well as addressing the lack of responsiveness from municipal departments, were some of the challenges Steenkamp faced in 2024.
“I continue these matters by escalating issues through senior management, mobilising community efforts, and running awareness campaigns to hold the city accountable.”
