Windsor Community Support Services looks back at the year 2024
Windsor Community Support Services wishes residents safe holidays and shares advice to keep their houses safe when going on holidays
Windsor Community Support Services (WCSS) media liaison Mathabo Bekimbia-Tchoffo wishes the residents a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
She said one of her highlights of 2024 was the Mandela Day celebration they held. “Our team joined forces with Linden SAPS, CPF, Victim Support, CIB patrollers and members of the community to fill jars of hope with soup ingredients which were donated to shelters, churches, schools, hospitals and orphanages. We were humbled to be part of this meaningful initiative, spreading hope and kindness throughout our community.”

WCSS also successfully hosted a Women’s Month celebration event promoting women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship and community unity.
“The Business Networking Breakfast partnered with Trust for Urban Housing Finance to connect property investors and homeowners, fostering economic growth and development. This was also an event I loved.”
Bekimbia-Tchoffo recognised resident Dorothy Myburgh as her selfless hero, who dedicated her time and resources to those in need. Myburgh fed the homeless, used her money to buy food, assisted senior citizens with their shopping and transportation and was always available whenever a community need arose.
She said despite WCSS’ tireless efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment for the Windsor community, they faced significant challenges in 2024.

She added there was a lack of local support and insufficient financial and resource contributions from local businesses. “Illegal dumping in Windsor undermined our cleaning initiatives, illegal spaza shops and unregulated street vendors occupy public spaces and unlicensed businesses operate in residential areas.”
She urged local authorities to enforce the by-laws.
“This holiday season, WCSS wishes for funding to support our mission of keeping Windsor clean and beautiful. Our Christmas dream is to receive funding that will enable us to enhance community clean-up initiatives, promote environmental education and preserve Windsor’s charm, fostering community pride. As we celebrate the joyous season of Christmas, we wish you and your loved ones a peaceful, safe and happy holiday.”
She reminded residents to consider the impact of fireworks on animals, as they could cause stress and anxiety. “Travel safety if you’re going away, ensure your property is secure. Consider hiring a house sitter or asking a trusted relative to keep an eye on your home.”
