Pretoria Avenue burst worsens

Residents are experiencing low pressure to no water gain, due to the unfinished water pipe burst repairs at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Road.

Residents in Ferndale, Randburg CBD, and other nearby areas are again experiencing low pressure to no water as the pipe burst at the corner of Pretoria Avenue and Harley Road worsens.

Residents were recently left without water for three days due to the pipe burst. On July 2, the entity confirmed that their team isolated the water supply to allow them to replace a damaged 450mm T-piece. As a result, customers in Ferndale, Fontainebleau, Bryanston, Malanshof, and President Ridge experienced low water pressure to no water. The water was fully restored on July 4.

On July 9, residents in the area again reported that they were experiencing low water pressure, and others had no water. The burst looked worse with water flowing down the streets. Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman explained that Johannesburg Water (JW) cut the repairs short because they didn’t have the correct materials needed. “Because of the Eikenhof planned maintenance that affected the residents, they decided to do temporary repairs and restore the water. They promised to return this week, but they are nowhere to be seen, and the burst is worse.”

The ward councillor is concerned about the Randburg Customer Service Centre that recently opened, as well as the Randburg Clinic, as they are affected. “They will also be closed if water is not delivered very quickly.”

Questions about the issue were sent to the entity and will be provided once made available.
